By Giuseppe Mathis

There are hundreds of MySpace layouts available on various sites, but did anyone wonder how they actually got created? Since MySpace is a very popular networking site, there has been a lot of development related to this community. Besides offering so many layouts and backgrounds, they are also free of cost.

All members can have a great time with the use of the MySpace layouts, as the variety is phenomenal. There are supposedly millions of users on the site, and of course each person’s profile is bound to have different information. Since there are so many users, people began to understand that default settings would definitely become boring.

Imagine visiting each person’s profile, only to find the same old layout with same old colors. Thus the concept of various MySpace layouts arose. Various designers are involved with this concept as well. They not only design them with a lot of creativity, they upload these layouts on many sites, so that any user may access them and apply them to the profiles.

The use of MySpace layouts is the most exciting feature with this site. There are plenty of categories and they are related to just about any topic under the sun. It could be music and it could be film. It could be art and it could be books even. Whatever the category is, since these millions of users have various interests, designers came up with many layouts.

The sites are flooded with MySpace layouts, as several people are designing them every day. It has also become competitive, and thus the sites are growing in number. Because MySpace is considered to be the most popular site today on the Internet, every designer wants to make their presence felt with different layouts.

So users will find that every day, there are new MySpace layouts being updated on sites. The creations are fabulous, as the designers tend to be innovative with each design. A user may even be interested in various layouts, and all they need to do is keep changing them as they please. Because of so many layouts available, choosing one may be difficult.

As a user is using one MySpace layout today, more new ones are being found on the Internet. However so many layouts are also a big plus point, as users may keep their profiles more interesting. Using these will be exciting, as some people may not have seen certain layouts unless they visit a particular profile.

If they like it, then they may search for it and apply it to their own. The large creation of MySpace layouts has created a lot of opportunities for creativity. The New SEO Reality For Ontological Text Recognition

By Erik Hammond

The old days of SEO are gone. Just not too long ago, standard SEO practices would place a site in the graces of the major search engines. Let’s examine what these standard techniques are before I venture into the copywriting/ontological part of SEO.

-Clean code and use of a CSS. It is still imperative to write in clean code and avoid proprietary tags or server side extensions such as the ones created/required by certain web design programs. Use a cascading style sheet to reduce attribute clutter.

-Keyword density. The accepted parameters call for keyword presence on each page in order to rank well for the particular term. Too little density and the search engines will not rank the site well and too much will be viewed as spam.

-Unidirectional and reciprocal linking. The more sites linking to one and the better the site will score. Note: reciprocal links are being discounted by Google in particular because of rampant, free for all link exchange abuse. Make sure anchor text reflects the keywords being targeted when conducting a link campaign.

The standard above guidelines are what many SEOs are focusing on to help websites in the top rank arena.

While these are still the basics, we are seeing a a shift in the ranks where sites rank extremely well for a keyword without such term even being present on the page. How is this possible? The only possible explanation is the contextual text relationship or theme of a site.

Google seems to be at the forefront of this technology: the sites that are doing well even for terms that are not present in the text or anchor links are very rich in related content. Also, very important, the site relates to the particular key phrase. Let’s try an example: when searching for “market timing”, a site is in the top 3 in Google. The site has hundreds of pages indexed and deals with market research for stocks, stock buying and investment decision tools. A human being reading through the site found by searching for market timing will find the site extremely informative and pertinent to the search. Then, how is it possible that Google could rank it high if it is just blindly indexing the text to find the exact keyword? The answer is ontological text recognition. By reading the contextual relationship between words and paragraphs, Google is capable of “understanding” that the site, without mentioning a particular keyword, will be relevant when a user searches for it.

What does this mean for you? Simply put, a lot. Copywriting is king. Well written content, informative article writing in conjunction with standard SEO techniques are the new search optimization reality. It means more work but also the advantage of maintaining more solid ranks over time as no competitor site can just easily tweak some code to rank higher. We have been focusing heavily on this new aspect to find the best way to create user friendly and rich content that will be positively received by search engines and searchers alike.

Google Dance And The Use Of Page Rank

By Erik Hammond

The update of the Google index is often referred to as the Google dance. For several days when Google is updating their index to include new pages and update their algorithms, search results almost seem to take on a life of their own. High positioned sites have been known to drop into near obscurity while the lesser-judged sites suddenly find themselves careering towards dizzy heights in the rankings. While this phenomenon is usually relatively short lived, lasting only two or three days, many webmasters take it to be a sign of things to come during the next major update.

Spurious Search Engine Results

Google uses a number of patented algorithms to determine the exact ranking of every indexed website. They also attempt to index as many websites and pages as they can possibly find. In order to do this they utilize tens of thousands of different hosts and over a dozen data centers. It is impossible for Google to update each and every one of these at the same time and it is also impossible for them to alternate between using old data and the new updated data. This leads to some potentially skewed results in their listings. However, these results are not usually indicative of future rankings.

Relying Too Heavily On Toolbar PR

The problem for many webmasters is an over reliance on the toolbar page rank. This is a problem for several reasons. Page rank isn’t the be all and end all of search engine rankings. It is used to determine the weight of an inbound link, meaning that a link from a page with a PR5 is much better than a link from a page with PR2. However, having a PR6 won’t necessarily mean that your site will list above all the PR4 sites on the web.

Relevancy Of Website Content

The logic is fairly simple. The PR of your site is a numerical value determined by numerous factors including the number of inbound links. In no way can this numerical ranking indicate the relevance of your website content when looking at a particular search term. Having a PR6 website does not necessarily mean that your site bears more relevance to a particular term than another website with a PR2. So, as well as the PR of your website, Google must also consider the topic and the content of your site and how relevant this is to the relevant search term.

Toolbar PR Compared To Live PR

Another problem is that the toolbar PR is only updated every three months or so, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. While you’re seeing that your site only has a PR2 it could be that it actually has a PR closer to 5. Your site will receive the credit from this “live” PR in preference to that of the toolbar PR so don’t panic.

A Final Word On The Google Dance

During the time the Google dance is being completed, the servers located around different data centers are upgrading and updating one at a time. This is why some sites will show spurious results and why some webmasters benefit for a day or two while others lose out. There is absolutely nothing that can be done to prevent this Google phenomenon and there is nothing you can do to hurry the process up. All that is left is to sit back and watch in amazement as the Google index dances.
